IM combines the best of western medicine with evidence-based complementary medicine and therapies to achieve optimal well-being and facilitate the body’s own healing potential.

With a focus on addressing the cause of illness and the impact of lifestyle (such as nutrition, exercise, sleep, relationships and environment) on our health and well-being, Dr Katrina Stewart works with her patients to develop an individualised programme of care. This may include diet modification, stress management, nutrient and herbal supplements, and bio-identical hormones. Dr Stewart can/will work happily with your General Practioner as well as your Specialists, this is essential for Integration across your team. 

Evidence-based interventions (EBI) are defined as practices by which the provider’s decision is backed by the most appropriate information [1]. EBIs originated from the evidence-based medicine movement.

Clinical Nutritionial Medicine

Nutritional Medicine forms the basis of complementary medical practice, looking holistically at the relationships that create health and disease – illness is complex and caused by a combination of factors, which should obviously constitute individualised care and dietary advice.


I am also concerned about the complex biochemical and metabolic interactions of macronutrients (carbohydrates, protein, fats) and micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, coenzymes, phytonutrients), as well as your ability to digest and absorb food properly – we are not ‘what we eat,’ we are in fact ‘what we absorb’!
As a clinical nutritionist my aim is to identify the underlying cause of health issues and chronic illness, educate clients and develop a treatment and prevention plan to re-establish and maintain wellbeing. There is no “one size fits all” approach when it comes to nutrition – nutritional prescriptions are tailored to the individual, taking into account both dietary and lifestyle factors such as sleep, physical activity, stress and environment.

I take a client-centred approach to treatment that is tailored to YOUR particular health goals. Whether it’s to improve your digestion, increase energy levels, lose weight or simply learn how to make better food choices I am here to guide, educate and empower you to take charge of your health, and to negotiate goals and strategies to achieve positive outcomes for your health.

Modern nutrition science likes to pretend that it simplifies the age-old question of what’s for dinner. In reality, most of us are more confused than ever. If you’re sick of struggling to sift through contradictory advice about optimal eating plans, it’s time to adopt a different framework- functional nutrition.

What is Functional Nutrition?
